Carmen helps maintain and develop the continued growth and expansion
of the customer base with client-centered policies and practices that
enable delivery of consistently high-performance systems backed by responsive,
high-quality services. In addition to working closely and continuously
with client management and support personnel, he helps develop the scope
of work, budgets and estimates for new projects. He also mentors others
in engineering design/build practices and customer relationship building,
helps evaluate and revise the company's standard estimating review
procedures, and promotes company policies and procedures that enable
more effective internal team building and cooperation. Regardless of
the task, however, Carmen's goal is to ensure that every project
meets clients' demanding expectations, while helping them address
today 's complex challenges.
Expertise
Carmen has been providing high-quality electrical services to a wide
range of clients for more than 26 years. He began his career as an
apprentice wireman, later serving as a journeyman, foreman and union
steward. He then held estimating and project management posts, before
becoming a service division manager. During this time, he worked with
such clients as the Museum of Science and Industry, Boeing and the
Chicago Transit Authority. He joined Gibson in 1986. Since then, he
has worked on a variety of institutional, retail, residential and
commercial projects. He has also designed and managed a wide range
of commercial and residential projects, including Chicago's
111 South Wacker, which Midwest Construction magazine named "Best
of 2005. "
In addition to four years of apprentice training, he has attended Washburne Trade School (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers [IBEW] Local #134) and Kennedy Electronic School. He has also taken Electrical Association courses on electrical systems design, fire alarm and detection systems, and electrical codes, as well as National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) courses on design/build strategies, electrical construction estimating and good workmanship in electrical contracting. A specialist in construction safety and health, he has completed OSHA 10-hour and 30-hour courses, the Chicagoland construction safety program and Fails Management's tight job control training. In addition, he has participated in SKM's systems analysis training and Allen Bradley's programmable controllers concepts and applications. Furthermore, he has completed the Dale Carnegie and Associates' effective public speaking and human relations program, the LEED-NC (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design-New Construction) technical review seminar and the Babson College Executive Leadership Series.
Carmen is a member of the United States Green Building Council and the Chicago Building Congress. A member of IBEW Local #134, he was recently appointed to the Contractor's Association's joint apprenticeship committee and the NECA training committee. He is a recipient of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America's "Award of Merit for Lighting Excellence."
The Personal Side
Carmen and his wife have two children. In addition to his family, he
enjoys virtually all outdoor sports, including Alpine skiing, tennis
and golf.
